Sandra D. Lanaway, LL.B. (Hons) (aka Sandie) joined Cooper Lingard in 1987 as trainee Solicitor under the supervision of Frank Collyer. Sandie has specialised mainly in Family Law since qualifying as a Solicitor in 1991. Sandie assumed the role of Managing Partner of Cooper Lingard in April 2006 following the retirement of Frank Collyer. Sandie is active in the Community, sponsoring and supporting several local and National Sport and Charity ventures. She served as a Governor of a local Primary School for 12 years and is a past President of Southend and District Law Society. Sandie subscribes to Resolution (formerly The Solicitors Family Law Association) and several periodicals as well as a continuing education programme. Her other specialised areas developed over many years, include Employment Law, Family Law including Divorce, Financial proceedings ancillary to Divorce and Children Act proceedings including, Adoption, International child abduction proceedings, International enforcement proceedings and Wardship as well as conveyancing, debt, Employment, Tenancy issues and other associated domestic areas. In addition, Sandie has a particular interest in Intellectual Property and Media Law having acted successfully for several artists and artistes including Claimants in respect of Breach of Copyright and also in respect of Phone Hacking acting for one of the Celebrity Claimants against the Mirror Group Newspapers ("MGN") claim, on the third round of litigation between MGN and some 200 litigants to achieve damages and a public apology.
Richard J. Phillips, having practised Law in the South East for several years, qualified as a Solicitor in 2003. Richard joined Cooper Lingard in July 2005 and worked alongside Frank Collyer until Frank's retirement in April 2007. He was appointed as a Partner with Cooper Lingard in April 2008. Richard has a wide area of expertise and many years of experience in Civil Litigation, Personal Injury, Commercial Law, Employment Law and Landlord and Tenant. Richard is a local family man and he is committed to supporting local activities and the local Community.
Our Probate Department has been fortunate to secure the assistance of the consultancy services of Colin T. Lander of Lander (PLS) Ltd. Having previously been employed by the Official Receiver for Bankruptcy, for some 8 years, Colin trained and qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives specialising in Trusts, Wills and Probate. He has specialised as a Probate Manager since approximately 1991 working in Romford and more lately in Leigh on Sea. Colin subscribes to a continuing education programme and is an Associate Member of the Society for Trust and Estate Practitioners. Colin is interested in personal fitness and has completed Marathons in the UK, New York and Berlin. He is also a cycling enthusiast and has taken part in various sporting activities involving strength and fitness and is a member of the East Essex Triathlon Club. Colin is a local family man with a good understanding and appreciation of the local area.
Norma Barton, joined Cooper Lingard in February 2016 having practiced as a Residential Conveyancing Executive in the area of Westcliff on Sea and Leigh on Sea since 2001. Norma acts in an advisory and support capacity to Richard Phillips and James Baker as she has wide experience in all aspect of freehold and leasehold conveyancing as well as other associated specialities. Norma has acted for various Property Management Agents and Developers who have sought her advice relating to Property Law over many years and who continue to do so. Norma is efficient, conscientious and very approachable and will always go that one step further to assist her client's and colleagues in what is a very stressful time when moving house.
Alison Cotgrove joined Cooper Lingard in 2003 as Cashier. Alison is responsible for the financial management and planning of the Firm. Alison is a highly qualified and experienced Legal Cashier having worked in this area of expertise for many years at several prestigious and busy Law Firms. Alison is also responsible for staff management and day to day records of the Practice and generally keeping everything in good order. A key member and centre pin of the team. Alison is a keen Golfer and a long term member of Thorpe Hall Golf Club.
Pauline Bartlett; Joined Cooper Lingard in August 2019. We are pleased to have engaged the expertise of Pauline who has been in Legal practice with some of the most prestigious Law Firm's in the area for some 30 years. Pauline's area of expertise is primarily in Children Act proceedings and general Family Law proceedings including Divorce and Financial proceedings. Pauline has wide experience in all Family Law matters ranging Care Proceedings and Private Law Cases. Pauline prides herself in her approachable manner and is always prepared to go the extra mile to assist her clients where possible.
Cooper Lingard are pleased to welcome James Baker into the Private Client department and to congratulate him on completion of his training under the supervision of Sandie Lanaway and Richard Phillips in October 2020. Prior to embarking upon Legal training, James was employed for many years by local prestigious Estate Agencies, where he developed an extensive knowledge of all matters relating to property, property transactions and expertise in all matters relating to sales and purchases of properties. As well as his vast experience in property matters, James has an empathy with client's and a good understanding of the stresses and strains of property transactions. He is always keen to maintain a friendly and efficient service, is approachable and keen to offer a full explanation at each stage of the transaction. James is interested in football, having previously played for Leigh Ramblers, and Rugby.
